There are a lot of myths that people have come to believe about their car's oil. We're going to debunk some of the more common myths today.
Myth #1: You Need to Change Your Oil Every 3,000 Miles
While there was a time when oil should be changed every 3,000 miles, modern vehicles can go for at least 7,000 miles before they need an oil change. Every vehicle is a little bit different, so consult your owner's manual to find out how long you should go without an oil change.
Myth #2: Black Oil Must Be Changed
Many people think that any oil that isn't a healthy amber color should be changed, but color isn't an indicator of oil life. Many modern oil products clean engines as they cycle through them, so a darker color only means that the oil is doing its job.
Myth #3: You Don't Need to Change Your Oil Filter Every Time You Get an Oil Change
Oil filters by their very definition filter contaminants out of your oil. If you change your oil without changing your filter as well, you're only going to contaminate your new oil with whatever is trapped in your filter.
